Scenes from a Season: THE UNIVERSITY SINGERS
REVOLUTION & 'EVOLUTION': The 51st Anniversary Concert Season of the celebrated University Singers offers a classy, get-up-and-cheer, direction-driven melange of musical sounds and styles, delivered via a heavenly and harmonious blend of voices, astonishing arrangements and stunning instrumentation. Currently underway at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI Mona (till June 28), the performance takes the form of Jamaica's musical evolution, beginning with lilting Amerindian rhymes and rhythms to memorable European and African melodies to the birth of ska, rocksteady, reggae and dancehall. Bristling with energy, colour and nostalgic and tuneful delights, the concert highlights are numerous, and the material heralds the emergence of a fresh and unforgettable repertoire; the dawn of a new chapter in the existence of the acclaimed choir.
