AWARDS SEASON WATCH: Golden Globe nominees announced

THE GREATEST: Meryl Streep nabs two Golden Globe acting nods

Official nominees for the Golden Globe Awards are finally out! They were announced in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 15, 2009. British actor and comedian Ricky Gervais will host the glittering awards ceremony, set for the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The awards show will air live on NBC on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 8:00 pm.


Up in the Air leads the list of nominees this year with a total of six nominations, among them Best Picture (Drama) and acting nods for George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick. Other drama picks were Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds and Precious.


The musical Nine follows with five nominations, including best musical or comedy and acting nods for Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. Up for two awards in the same category – surprise, surprise -- this year is Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia and It's Complicated for Best Actress in a Comedy.


Acclaimed film director Martin Scorsese will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.
