MUSIC NEWS: Buju arrested in Florida, faces tough sentence

UNDER FIRE AGAIN: Buju arresred in Florida

First, reggae singer Buju Banton was in the news this month because of his best reggae album Grammy nomination. Now Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, is behind bars in federal prison in Miami, according to a report in the Miami Herald.

Banton has been in custody since Thursday, having been arrested on a charge of conspiracy to possess, with intent to distribute, more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, explains a DEA spokesman. Though Banton is being held in Miami, the case in question is based in Tampa, Florida, where he will be transferred. If convicted, he faces as many as 20 years in prison. The Palm Beach Post later reported that Banton is scheduled to appear in a Tampa court, today, December 14.

Only recently, Banton was in the news after his Grammy nomination for Rasta Got Soul was protested by gay rights advocates.
