VIVA LAS VEGAS! VIVA YENDI! A quick recap of MISS UNIVERSE 2010

MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME: Miss Mexico (22-year-old Jimena Navarrate) might have emerged as the judges’ choice for the new queen of the universe, but the real star of the pageant was our history-making girl (Miss Jamaica) Yendi Phillipps, who took first runner-up. (Go, Yendi!). This means that if for any reason Miss Mexico is unable to fulfil her year-long duties, Phillipps will be called upon to replace her.

Meanwhile, during the pageant last night at the Mandalay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, 83 of the world’s most beautiful women was narrowed down to 15, then 10, top five, then the eventual crowning. Here’s a breakdown:

I knew Yendi would do well. I've been a fan of hers for years! The 'haters' only helped focus attention on her and, knowing Yendi, made her even more determined to win. She should have taken first place, of course, but she was up front all the time and surely made Jamaica feel proud.
Thanks Tallawah for always being on top of the good news.

  2. Yendi was the better of the two and I am not just saying this because she is Jamaican.

  3. Yendi certainly had a better presence than Miss Mexico, but only one could take the crown in the end. It really came down to the wire for both of them as they were neck and neck in the points tally all night!

  4. Results showed that Mexico's points = SS 9.265/ EG 8.913 = 18.178 VS Jamaica's points SS 9.426/ EG 8.884 = 18.31 Clearly Jamaica was robbed here. It's not like Mexico's question and answer was that profound. Mexico did not even answer teh question, not to mention the fact when you have translaters that work in your favor, you can thik about your response while they translate. Advantage right there. I could have understand lets say Austrailia or even Ukraine winning based on their responces but Mexico. cleary Yendi was robbed, but when Trump is quoted on multiple occasions saying latin women are the most beautiful in the world , it's not suprize one would win. Having said that, I think there should be a boycot next yr. You mean to tell me non of the darker complected girls were deemed beautiful. Also to add, phillippines was not the only asian contestant I felt as beautiful. Thailand, Malaysia were way more attractive that she was. I am starting to lose respect with the Miss Universe organization, atleast with Miss World, there winners for the most part are justified in some way.

  5. Considering the points tally, I think Yendi was pipped by Miss Mexico for the crown following that question-and-answer segment...
