THE THESPIES: Nominees grateful for recognition in first Thespian Spirit Awards

The announcement of nominees for the 1st Annual Thespian Spirit Awards has sent a wave of glee across the local artistic community, particularly among the actors, who are thankful for the emergence for a second coveted prize that seeks to annually recognize their diligence and commitment to their craft in Jamaican theatre.

“Thanks so much for the recognition. It surely means a lot in this small but valuable community of ours,” said Rishille Bellamy-Pelicie, a nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her stunning work in Appropriate Behaviour. “To be included in such a list is an honour. I pray these awards will serve as an encouragement and inspiration for all.”

Stars of the hit revenge drama Judgement, Andre Morris and Dahlia Harris, were equally ecstatic. “Thank you so much. It has definitely inspired me to keep reaching for those stars,” Harris gushed, while Denis Hunt, who wowed audiences in Second Chance described her Best Actress nomination as “a real blessing.”

The University Players’ comedy-drama Appropriate Behaviour leads all contenders with 6 nominations, including a bid for Outstanding Ensemble Cast. Judgement and the musical drama White Witch each earned five. Against His Will is up for four awards, while Midnight at Puss Creek picked up three. Winners will be announced February 21.
