TOTAL KNOCKOUT: Exhilarating ‘The Contender’ boxing series culminates in dazzling fashion

READY TO R-R-RUMBLE: Boxing enthusiasts, sponsors and promoters flocked to the Constant Spring mini-stadium last Wednesday to witness a feast of jabs and punches as Jamaica’s new middle-weight boxing champion was crowned. The setting was the finals of the widely publicized ‘The Contender’ series, which was ending its four-month stint with a stellar showcase by finalists Devon Moncrieffe and Rikardo ‘The Surgeon’ Smith. Smith eventually emerged the winner after scoring a technical knockout in round 8, walking away with the million-dollar grand prize and the adulation of countless new supporters. The mammoth crowd on hand was a versatile mixture:

The action inside the ring was nothing if not intense as Smith and Moncrieffe put in work.

Vybz Kartel and his brown skin, as well as singjay I-Octane, were among the entertainers who performed at the finals.

Why so serious? Konshens was in one of his sulky moods.

Omari also passed through and shared camera time with Konshens.

Retired supermodel Kibwe McGann (right) was there, looking taller than usual.

And, of course, sports minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange put in an appearance.

Oral Tracey also showed up and was clearly pleased with the finals.
