HOT TICKET: This week’s must-see performances

LYRIC CAFÉ: Sankofa Arts & Facilitation returns with Word-Soul, a potpourri of poetry, spoken word and song stylings performed by a unique and eclectic core group of 6 brought together by creative director fabian thomas. thomas, who is among the show’s 6 performers, describes Word-Soul as “a smooth, mature, sexy (but not raunchy) vibe, sweetened with soulful renditions of a variety of musical genres intertwined with evocative poetry/spoken word, song stylings and dance loosely threaded together by narration. SPIRIT OF 49: And over at the Little Theatre, the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) opens their 2011 Season of Dance on Friday with a time-honoured programme of revived works (Nettleford’s “Blood Canticles”, “Gerrehbenta” among them) and debut creations from a roster of “new generation” choreographers, including ballet mistress Kerry-Ann Henry, Oniel Pryce, Stefanie Thomas and Christina Gonzalez. July 22 to August 22.
