There’s no denying it now! Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” was one of the biggest hits on the planet in the last decade. And so agree the folks over at pop culture juggernaut VH1, who have ranked the mega-single among its 100 Greatest Songs of 2000-2010. Off Mr. Bombastic’s 2001 diamond-selling Hot Shots, “It Wasn’t Me” (a playful tune about relationships and infidelity) comes in at # 97 on the list, which is topped by pop superstar Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” (which features hubby Jay-Z).
Released in Feb. 2001, “It Wasn’t Me” featured the vocal contributions of regular collaborator Rik Rok, and was Shaggy’s first number-one hit in the U.S. In addition, according to Wikipedia, the song is the 4th biggest-selling single of the 21st century in the UK and the biggest selling single by a non-British artist.
