ISLAND GROOVE: Good vibrations to flow at 'Jimi’s Jam'

I AM LEGEND: The man and his instrument.

Is there a better way to salute the late great musical genius Jimi Hendrix than with a celebratory island-style explosion of his music and legend? Hardly. Come November 27 (Hendrix’s 69th birthday), the inventive team behind the budding Asante Adonai brand will be hosting “Jimi’s Jam,” a day-long fusion of eclectic rhythms and funky grooves in memory of the iconic American, widely considered to be the greatest guitarist in musical history. In short, a single event featuring all things Hendrix!

The day’s programme (noon to 6:00 pm, at Winefield, St. Ann) will offer three main events:

*The Mind Expansion Audio Experience: This segment will provide an opportunity to listen to every Hendrix song ever recorded. Leahcim Semaj of Judgement Sound will be the DJ at the controls, spinning tunes on everything from vinyl to CDs to MP3.

*The Fillmore Tropic Theatre: Attendees will be treated to concert clips, interviews and documentaries on the life and work of this great musician. This segment will run from afternoon to evening.

*Genius at work Main Stage: Guitarists are invited to select their favorite Hendrix song, and plug in a play with Jimi. Today’s technology makes this possible. This segment will run from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Guitarists who want to play can call 881-5629 to book a spot in the line-up. The project is endorsed by Seretse Small of Griot Music and Jakoostik. Sound will be provided by Garth Swaby of The Judge Disco.

Admission to the event is free with the purchase of J$500 worth of refreshment chits. Music lovers are reminded to carpool and to bring a chair. Info: asanteadonai.com.
