NEWS & NOTES: Usain Bolt to kick-off 2012 season on Feb. 11

The wait is over: The World’s Fastest Man will commence his 2012 season with an appearance at the Camperdown Classics next Saturday, February 11. According to, the triple world-record holder will also hit the track at the Feb. 25 Gibson Relays at the National Stadium. Bolt, the reigning national sportsman, is gearing up to take on the world at the London Olympic Games this summer.

According to reports, former Tourism Minister Aloun Assamba has been selected to serve as Jamaica's new High Commissioner to London. Assamba, an attorney-at-law and mediator in private practice, is slated to take up the post in April, replacing Anthony Johnson, who took office under the Jamaica Labour Party.

Following the success of his 2011 musical Last Call, award-winning playwright/actor Keiran King is fine-tuning his next effort: a marriage drama, which he plans to stage at UWI’s Philip Sherlock Centre in July.

After 8 years, Kay Osborne has resigned as TV J’s general manager. Osborne handed in her resignation late last month. However, Managing Director of the RJR Group, Gary Allen, confirmed that Osborne’s resignation takes effect at the end of February. Under Osborne's leadership, TVJ widened its viewership spread with rival CVM and built the Caribbean's largest portfolio of local programmes.
