ACTOR BOY AWARDS: Last Call, Acts of Apostles emerge top nominees
With an impressive 11 nominations apiece, two acclaimed stage musicals have bested the field of nominees for the 2011/12 ITI Actor Boy Awards (ABAs), slated for March 26 in Kingston. The Father HoLung & Friends operatic production Acts of the Apostles and Keiran King’s throwback musical Last Call each earned nods for Production, Musical, Original Score, Choreography, and Set Design, among others.
Coincidentally, another musical – the Annie Palmer hit White Witch – took Best Production honours at last year’s awards ceremony.
Also up for Best Production this year: the revenge drama Charlie’s Angels, which copped seven noms; the domestic potboiler Where Is My Father?, which also snagged seven; and the satirical revival Breadfruit Kingdom, which secured 10 bids.
Winners in all 18 categories will be revealed during a presentation ceremony (Monday, March 26) at a Kingston venue to be announced. Each year, the ABAs salute the best performers and productions in Jamaican theatre.
