LAUNCH REPORT: Mr. Vegas offers Sweet Jamaica for Golden Jubilee

TALK THAT TALK: Mr. Vegas and Claudette Powell in conversation.

What: Album launch for Mr. Vegas’ Sweet Jamaica double disc

When: Monday night

Where: Mango Ranch, St. Andrew

Who did what: Natel, Barrington Levy and Mr. Vegas (doing collaborations with Nadine Sutherland and Luciano) gave solid performances. The event was hosted by radio personality Claudette Powell and ace music producer Mikey Bennett served as guest speaker. Executive Director of the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JARIA), Charles Campbell, endorsed the album (a special release in time for Jamaica 50) while commending Mr. Vegas on his successful career.

Pure Jamaican melodies: The album’s two discs, Sweet Jamaica Reggae and Sweet Jamaica Dancehall, collectively feature over 30 tracks, including new material. For one, Sweet Jamaica Reggae offers a fusion of ska, rocksteady, and foundation reggae rhythms. Mr. Vegas shows off his singing talent on remakes of Toots and the Maytals’ classic “Sweet and Dandy” and Alton Ellis’ “You Make Me Happy.” Sweet Jamaica Dancehall, meanwhile, features Mr. Vegas’ typically energetic dancehall delivery on hits like current chart-topper “Bruck it Dung” and the potential street anthem “Certain Law.” Sweet Jamaica Dancehall also includes a live version of his internationally acclaimed gospel-flavoured single “I Am Blessed.”

Sweet Jamaica is available wherever music is sold.
