3 FOR THE WEEKEND: Your guide to this weekend’s hot-ticket events

CINEMA

Prometheus
Director: Ridley Scott
Cast: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron

With a top-notch cast, a masterful director and a potent mix of suspense and foreboding, this Aliens prequel is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride that lends bold new meaning to the idea of outer- space adventure. Now playing at Palace Cinemas. Tyrone’s Verdict: B+

PERFORMANCE

University Singers’ 2012 Concert Season
Venue: Philip Sherlock Centre, UWI Mona

Sacreds, spirituals, folk gems and patriotic tunes are (as expected) among the ingredients, but what truly makes this year’s concert a rich musical feast is the inspired addition of an emphatically stirring mini-opera centred on the Morant Bay Rebellion. Paul Bogle rocks!

FASHION SHOWCASE

Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) 2012
Venue: National Indoor Sports Centre, Kingston

From island-perfect haute couture to warm-weather staples, the Caribbean is a hotbed of diverse design talent. This weekend, the best of the region will be on show as the annual Caribbean Fashion Week takes over the National Indoor Sports Centre. Prepare to be wowed by youthful newcomers (Shenna Carby, Rebecca Stirm, Gregory Williams…) and established names (Meiling, Biggy, Kokobeenz…). Even the überfabulous Nell Robinson (above) is throwing her hat in the design ring with plans to send a swimwear collection (Bang!) down the runway. Certainly not to be missed.
