Who will get nominated? Who will win? Nominees for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album will be known on December 5, the date that has been set aside for the Grammy Nominations Special: Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night, which will air on CBS. Performers will include past Grammy winners and nominees. To meet the eligibility requirements for nomination, albums must be released during the period of October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012. The Grammy Awards are slated for Feb. 10, 2013 at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Stephen Marley’s Revelation: The Root of Life is the most recent winner of Best Reggae Album. Damian Marley (above) is the first and only reggae act to cop two Grammys on the same night (for 2005’s Welcome To Jamrock).
And speaking of Grammy winners, megastar Shaggy (who always does it major) is gearing up for the official launch of his Ranch Entertainment label, set for early June. More details to emerge. Meantime, Mr. Boombastic was among the stars who brought some sizzling island flavour to the 26th Annual Jazz and Reggae Festival on the UCLA campus in California over the Memorial Day weekend. Mr. Mecoustic himself, Tarrus Riley, also hit the stage.
June also promises to bring a host of popular faces back to local TV screens. While Bambino and Tessanne Chin are set to reprise their roles as judges on Rising Stars (launching June 8), songbird Alaine Laughton and media darling Pepita Little will bring their radiance to the set of Tastee Talent Trail in their capacities as judge and hostess respectively.
