ON THE MUSIC SCENE: Konshens’ hot new release + R. Kelly has a message for his Jamaican fans

FIRED UP: He’s always repping for his legions of loyal female fans so it was only a matter of time before Konshens released a compilation exclusively for them. Last week the dancehall hotshot followed his exhilarating Street Code mixtape with the release of the Gyal Kin Ketch A Fire version, which comes packed with some 30 cuts. Hosted by the Kingston All Stars, the mixtape includes cameos from the likes of Tifa (“Destiny”) and SubKonshus labelmates Darrio (“Gal SiDung) and Markhize (“F—k Weh”), as well as new treatments of such chart hits as “Bad Gal” and “Gyal A Bubble.” [Download it HERE.]

RATED R: R. Kelly is ready to make up for lost time. The embattled R&B superstar, who was a no-show at last year’s Reggae Sumfest on account of throat surgery, promises that his well-anticipated appearance (Saturday, July 21) at this year’s festival will be an affair to remember.
