ON THE MUSIC SCENE: Romain Virgo and friends launch The System in Kingston

With the help of some of reggae and dancehall’s elites, ascendant hitmaker Romain Virgo hosted the Jamaican launch for his critically acclaimed sophomore album, The System, in Emancipation Park in New Kingston on Wednesday night. Performing before a sizeable crowd of fans and industry faces, the likes of Chris Martin, D-Major and Konshens ripped the stage, before the man of the hour appeared (dazzling in white) to light up the venue with spirited renditions of his latest hits.

Following the release of Virgo’s The System and Busy Signal’s Reggae Music Again, VP Records has announced the impending arrival of Out of Many: 50 Years of Reggae Music, a commemorative compilation record that charts the evolution of reggae over the course of the past half-century. Due out July 17, Out of Many comprises classic cuts by some of the industry’s best, including Shabba Ranks, Morgan Heritage, Beenie Man and Tanya Stephens.
