ZIGGY MARLEY: “I grew up with a lot of scorpions”
Earlier this week, MTV News decided to school its viewers on reggae music, and which expert better to turn to than the eldest son of reggae’s greatest-ever exponent, Bob Marley. The interview with Ziggy touched on everything from reggae’s universal appeal to Rasta culture to Ziggy's admission of being struck with Bieber fever (!).
But, unsurprisingly, they also wanted to find out about cannabis and its prevalence in reggae culture. “It’s best known in reggae because we come from Jamaica, and again my culture uses the plant as a sacrament, as a religious thing. We use it for a lot of other things than just smoking. A lot of people probably don’t know [that],” Ziggy explained.
“I grew up in a house with a lot of scorpions,” he continued. “So if you got a scorpion [sting], one of the best remedies is a bottle of alcohol with marijuana leaf, pimento seed, and all sorts of herbs in it. So it’s a whole thing, not just smoking.”
