FAMILY BUSINESS: The Morrises (and Etana's son Shevaun) at the recent Canjam Fest in Canada.
With Jamaica 50 all the rage these days, there is a refreshing sense of change in the air – and a real baby boom taking over the local reggae music scene. Add singer Etana to the mix.
The soulful songbird has officially confirmed that she and husband, the hunky actor-model Andre Morris, are looking forward to the birth of their first child together, a daughter due around October/November. “I’m surprised with a new life, a precious gift,” she gushes. “Jah works in mysterious ways.”
Over the course of her illustrious career, Etana (née Shauna McKenzie) has remained faithfully mum on her personal life, but she says she felt compelled to “respectfully enlighten her fans by announcing she had a bun in the oven” and address, once and for all, the speculation and whispers that have dogged her romance with Morris ever since they tied the knot back in March 2010. While this marks the first child for Andre, Etana has a tween son from a previous relationship.
In the meantime, the singer, ever the passionate workaholic, is showing no signs of slowing down. Presently she is touring the UK and preparing for a Jamaica 50 performance at the Tower Ballroom, slated for this Saturday, Aug. 4, in Birmingham. The rest of the summer will see her making stops in places like Kenya and at Germany’s Chimsee Festival.
Thereafter, the mom-to-be says she plans to take a much-needed break from the stage to rest and make preparations for the much-anticipated arrival of her baby girl. And speaking of special deliveries, expect her next studio album, Better Tomorrow, to drop in early 2013.
