THE WORLD’S GREATEST: Usain Gold’s era-defining exploits at this summer’s London Olympics have left the world in his thrall and dominated international headlines everywhere from Britain to the United States, where he is gracing the (Aug. 13) Olympic Issue of Sports Illustrated. This is Bolt’s second SI cover appearance as he also graced the weekly magazine’s August 31, 2009 issue. “Before the Olympics began, some fans had questioned whether [the Jamaican sprinter] would be healthy enough to win in London. He [has] silenced everyone,” says the magazine, whose senior writer Tim Laymen adds, “No athlete in track and field at the Games rises to the moment the way that Bolt does.” I can’t disagree. For his part, Bolt notes, “A lot of people doubted me. A lot of people said I couldn’t win. I wanted to show the world that I’m still Number 1, the best.”
ALL EYES ON ME: Jamerican Olympic 400-metre gold-medallist Sanya Richards-Ross has reportedly agreed to have aspects of her personal life filmed for a reality show set to air on the WE channel later this year. The as-yet-untitled show, which began filming two weeks before Richard-Ross left her Austin, Texas home for the London Games, will offer viewers a closer look at the star athlete’s life with husband Aaron Ross (the Super Bowl champion) and such close relatives as mom/agent Sharon, dad/manager Archie and sister/business partner Shari.
