THE ITALIAN JOB: The singer outside a swanky hotel in Italy.
“Overall it was one of the best experiences of my career,” crooner Natel readily confesses about his life on the road in Europe this summer as the opening act for reggae-dancehall vet Mr. Vegas on the 2012 Sweet Jamaica Tour. “I am truly blessed for the opportunity to spread my voice in a different and bigger territory. And I definitely have to thank Mr. Vegas for allowing me the honour of being one of the opening acts for his shows.”
While the highlights on stage, night after night, in some of Europe’s most cosmopolitan cities, have been numerous, Natel says nothing compares to the thrill of a responsive, satisfied crowd.
“[Watching] the thousands of people that came out to the festivals to support and enjoy reggae music was really fascinating, and it was pleasurable to get them to rock and sing while I perform.”
Of all the cities visited, is it possible to single out a favourite? “Most of the shows we had back-to-back so I didn't really get a chance to explore the cities as I’d like to. So it would be unfair to chose one. But I'd go back anytime.” How did he find the food and the scenery? “The scenery was all beauty, most of which made me feel like I was in a movie,” he says. “Next time though I think I should bring a pot, coconut milk and some red peas, because I missed the food back home. The fanbase is definitely growing.”
