NEWS + NOTES: Konshens earns nod for MOBO Award, readies sophomore disc

STAR BRIGHT: Top-flight deejay Konshens, who is about to commence crafting tracks for his eagerly awaited sophomore album, is slated to headline next Tuesday’s incarnation of Behind the Screen at Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records. Concertgoers can also expect appearances from hot and emerging SubKonshus talents like Darrio. Meantime, the hitmaker’s name has turned up on the final list of nominees for this year’s reggae trophy at the Music of Black Origin Awards (MOBO), which will be handed out on Nov. 3 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. 

SHOW TIME: And speaking of talented people, filmmaker Chris Byfield’s next stop on the film-festival circuit is this month’s highly anticipated Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival, where his acclaimed short Red Amber Green will be screened on Sep 21 at Movie Town Port of Spain, and twice on Oct 1: at Movie Town Tobago and at later the same day at Movie Town Port of Spain. Up next for Chris is a new project (which involves the Red Amber Green soundtrack) entitled “Rich Rich” and performed by the singing duo Danni & Tahal (Damarah Danni and Kalvin Tahal). STRING THEORY:The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra came to the cool hills of Mandeville and gave a performance of the highest standard that will long be remembered by the people who travelled from near and far to witness it,” The Gleaner noted in its review of the UK-based orchestra, which recently gave highly successfully performances in Manchester and Kingston.
