NEWS & NOTES: Not About Eve nabs a Manhattan revival + Patti LaBelle to add spice to J’ca Epicurean Escape

ICONIC TASTE: Entertainment legend Patti LaBelle will be the special guest at the inaugural Jamaica Epicurean Escape, being held on December 1 and 2 at Richmond Estate in St. Ann. On Saturday, Dec. 1, LaBelle will give a performance at the after-party in the Luxury Lounge, and the following day she will hit the main stage, as part of a cooking demonstration involving unique Jamaican recipes of her popular Lady Marmalade sauces. “We are so excited about being able to have Miss Labelle on our programme,” says team leader Marcia McDonnough. “Her appearance here will certainly put us on the map as a true international event.” Labelle, whose many achievements include inductions into the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, has published three best-selling cookbooks, including Recipes for the Good Life, aimed at persons battling diabetes. THE TIES THAT BIND: Karl Williams’ Not About Eve, one of TALLAWAH’s favourite stage dramas in modern Jamaican theatre is set for a Manhattan revival later this month. Directed by Daphne Sicre and featuring a cast made up of Sharon Tsahai King, Ilana Warner and Stacy-Ann Brissett, the award-winning play will engross audiences inside the Roy Arias Studios (Stage II Theatre) in Manhattan, New York, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2. Chronicling a three-generation Jamaican household in turmoil, a family in transition, and the secrets that could alter three lives forever, Not About Eve is the gripping story of the three women who find themselves at a crossroads in their individual lives as the society changes rapidly around them.
