THEIR BRIGHT FUTURE: Weir wowed his new fiancee with this sweet treat.
How did Olympic star Warren Weir celebrate/welcome the arrival of the New Year? By proposing to his longtime girlfriend Natalya McGhie, of course. On the cusp of 2013, Weir surprised his lady love of three years with a romantic pink-and-green confection emblazoned with the words “Will you marry me?” and bearing a large silver ring at the top.
“Popped the question at 11:59 and @natalyaolivia said yes,” the overjoyed Olympic bronze medallist and Racers athlete later tweeted to his thousands of followers, who in turn responded with heartfelt congrats and kind wishes. “Thanks for all the love. We are very touched by all your tweets.”
Getting engaged seems a natural step for the inseparable young couple (he’s 23, she’s 19), now poised to become man and wife. “He is really caring and humble and very supportive. He is just overall a really nice person and very family-oriented. The only difference is that he is very outgoing and I am not,” the bride-to-be (a Campion College alum and UWI freshman) confessed to The Gleaner in an August interview. “There is no doubt about the fact that we love each other very much, but for now we are just taking it in stages and see what the future holds.”
In the meantime, their closest friends are beside themselves with glee over the wonderful news. “Warren picked the perfect time and the perfect way to propose. Natalya was very pleasantly surprised,” a source tells TALLAWAH, adding that the twosome engaged in a little display of affection afterwards. Adds another, “They are going into this New Year closer than ever, and we are so happy for them.” While a wedding date is yet to be finalized and announced, one thing is clear: the blissful duo is poised to take their love story to a whole new level.
