NEWS & NOTES: Is Romain Virgo poised for another monster year? + Usain Bolt joins forces with Iberostar for stellar weekend event

FUN WEEKEND, WORTHY CAUSE: TALLAWAH’s Jamaican of the Year honoree, Usain Bolt, has big, exciting things planned for 2013 – and I’m not just referring to his gold-medal prospects at the World Athletic Championships in Russia this summer. Prior to that, the sprinting legend and the hard-working team behind his non-profit foundation will be raising funds for its kid-friendly projects by joining forces with the Iberostar Hotel and Resorts in Montego Bay for a planned “Jamaica Weekend Experience,” set for April 18-21. So far, Bolt has extended invites to his global business partners, friends and fans to take part in this fun, exclusive four-day event, which will feature everything from golf, beach volleyball and comedy to treasure hunts, themed parties, and the all-important gala dinner and auction. More importantly, it’s all for a worthy cause, and the foundation’s primary aim is to rake in between US$3-5 million. Says Bolt, “I am excited to be able to positively impact the lives of our children, our future, in such a meaningful way.”

ON THE GO: No rest for the talented. After a hugely triumphant 2012 that saw the release of his critically praised sophomore album, sold-out European and Japanese tours, and performances on all the biggest reggae-dancehall stages, Romain Virgo is gearing up for another dominant year. He’s already taking 2013 by the horns, most notably by joining the likes of R&B superstar John Legend on this weekend’s closing night of the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival in Trelawny before turning his attention to fine-tuning his first-ever mixtape, aptly titled Go Harder 2013 & Beyond, which is coming out soon. Go harder? By the looks of things, this “Entertainer of the Year” honoree plans on doing just that. Take a look at Virgo’s new behind-the-scenes video HERE.
