CARIBBEAN CLASSIC: Ghetta’Life heading to Flow-on-Demand and Blockbuster DVD

ACTION TIME: Lead actor Kevoy Burton graces the film's revealing poster.

Ghett’a Life, the gritty, Chris Browne-directed Jamaican urban drama, which was the most popular film among local moviegoers in 2011, will be released on FLOW On Demand on Feb. 18 and on Blockbuster DVD in the United States on Feb. 19.

TALLAWAH has learnt that world sales agent Jinga Films has struck a deal with MVD to release the physical DVD in North America while Gravitas Ventures will handle the Video On Demand (VOD) in North America soon after. Jinga Films has also tied up distribution in the UK both on DVD and VOD for May 2013.

Ghett’a Life, boasting an all-Jamaican cast and crew headed by Kevoy Burton, Christopher McFarlane, Winston Bell, Carl Davis and Lisa Williams, topped Palace Amusement Company’s list of 2011 movies, running a total of 12 weeks and delighting packed audiences.

Writer-director Chris Browne earned a screenplay prize at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France for this work, a riveting against-the-odds story of a young, aspiring boxer (wonderfully portrayed by Burton) who must overcome the obstacles of tribal politics in order to achieve his dreams.

>> ALSO COMING TO DVD: Oscar contenders Silver Linings Playbook (Feb. 19), Life of Pi (March 12), Zero Dark Thirty (March 19) and Les Misérables (March 22).
