CULTURE BEAT: Date, producing pair for 2013 Actor Boy Awards confirmed

AWARDS: Mark your calendars! The confirmed date for the staging of this year’s Actor Boy Awards is March 25. Maurice Bryan and Michael Daley are producing this year’s ceremony, which will take place at the Little Theatre in Kingston under a production theme to be directed by Trevor Nairne. Featuring a host of youth theatre groups, the event will look at Jamaican theatre for the next 50 years. More details to come. Stay tuned. COMPETITION: Are you planning on showcasing your unique artistic talents in this year’s JCDC Festival of the Performing Arts? According to festival organizers, the deadline for the submission of entries has been extended to Friday, Feb. 22. 

BOOK LAUNCH: The University of the West Indies Press and the school’s Department of Literatures in English (in association with Pulse Investments Limited) will be launching the book Global Reggae, edited by Dr. Carolyn Cooper, at New Kingston’s Puls8 (formerly Studio 38) in Kingston on Sunday, Feb. 17, commencing at 6:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Michelle “DJ Afifa” Harris will give the keynote address.
