NEWS & NOTES: Jimmy Cliff joins forces with ‘Jamaica Me Happy’ campaign + Imani and Stephen welcome a baby girl

…AND BABY MAKES THREE: It’s a girl for Senator Imani Duncan-Price and hubby Stephen Price! And a most ideal baby name for this time of year, as Duncan-Price, who gave birth this past Thursday, has decided to name her baby Marley. The significance of the name choice wasn’t lost on her Senate colleagues, who welcomed the wonderful news on Friday morning. “A child born in Reggae Month to the Senate should be aptly named Marley,” noted Angella Brown-Burke. “I have not seen the babe as yet but I am certain that if I am to go by the beauty of the mother, I am certain it’s a beautiful baby girl,” said Floyd Morris, who is visually impaired. Added Leader of Government Business, AJ Nicholson, “Perhaps for the first time at last we have a Senate baby and we are glad that baby came from this side.”

JAMAICA TO THE WORLD: “I am happy to be doing something uplifting for Jamaica, and I will continue to do the work that I've been doing,” says reggae icon Jimmy Cliff of his involvement in a newly unveiled campaign dubbed “Jamaica Me Happy,” which was officially launched Wednesday night at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, during a reception for Cliff and the star of VW’s ‘Get Happy’ commercial, Erik Nicolaisen. An initiative of the Jamaica Tourist Board, the new campaign will focus on promoting Brand Jamaica primarily via new media and social-media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. “What we have done is to get 27 hotels rates and put them together for a campaign,” explains tourism minister Wykeham McNeil. “We recognized that on YouTube, something that has gotten 13 million hits will provide a great boost for Brand Jamaica.”
