As the deejay on duty kept the venue pumping with the latest tunes, nominees, fans and sponsors rubbed shoulders at the 2013 Youth View Awards (YVAs) Nominees Party inside Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records on Thursday night.
Among those spotted soaking up the festive vibes: host Bambino, singer Denyque, disc jock Sanjay Smith, Digicel’s Tahnida Nunes, dancehall diva Stacious, Pepsi’s Carla Hollingsworth and event conceptualizer Karen Clarke, who confessed to being particularly thrilled about this year’s staging of the annual ceremony.
“I’m excited primarily about the fact that this year the focus is on our local artistes and not so much on who is coming down from overseas,” said Clarke, whose company An Elegant Affair organizes the hotly anticipated event year after year. “So we hope everyone comes out and have a great time with us. It will be wonderful.”
Hollingsworth, meanwhile, described the awards as one of the hottest events on the Jamaican entertainment calendar. “[The YVAs] are the premier awards show in Jamaica,” she told TALLAWAH. “And I think much of its success is the result of the incredible effort that goes into the preparations to keep the amazing brand and product alive.”
Now in its sixth year, the Youth View Awards (boasting the tagline of “Young, Hot & Hype”) take place this Saturday inside the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston. Trophies will be handed out to winners in over 20 categories.
