THE SOCIAL NETWORK: LIME treats customers to revolutionary new rate + Digicel introduces the sleek Blackberry Q10

UPWARDLY MOBILE: As of midnight Thursday, June 6, standard Talk EZ Prepaid customers of telecomms company LIME will enjoy a historically low $2.99 per minute rate (billed on a per-second basis) to call locally as well as the USA, Canada and landlines in the U.K. The revolutionary rate announcement came Thursday morning during a webcast hosted via the company’s social media pages by CEO Garry Sinclair (left). “We are again delivering on the promise of value to Jamaican consumers," Sinclair emphasized. "With this new Talk EZ rate, customers will think nothing of calling any number in Jamaica, the USA, Canada and landlines in the U.K. They all cost the same $2.99 per minute – billed per second.”

While the Talk EZ plan is the default option for all new LIME customers, existing subscribers may activate the plan by dialling *123*1# from any mobile phone. The introduction of the reduced rate also comes three weeks ahead of the July 1 implementation date for the new Mobile Termination Rate (MTR) announced by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) last week. The company’s TALK EZ prepaid plan for on-net prepaid and international calls to the USA, Canada & UK landlines will now extend to calls made to subscribers on rival network, Digicel. Says Sinclair, "We expect that this all-time-low rate will give consumers ‘sitting on the fence’ the best incentive to come and experience true mobile value."

TECH TOY: Thursday, June 6, also marked the launch of the exciting new BlackBerry® Q10 smartphone, powered by BlackBerry® 10 in the Caribbean, El Salvador and Panama. The sleek handheld device (modeled above by brand ambassador Tifa) combines BlackBerry’s best physical keyboard and a touch screen with the power of the BlackBerry 10 platform to help users communicate and collaborate faster and more efficiently, and is built with precision while offering premium performance in a signature design. "Following on from the successful launch of the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone, which our customers across the Caribbean and Central America are enjoying," explains Brian Finn, Digicel Group Commercial Director, "we are delighted to now bring the new BlackBerry Q10 smartphone to them. [It's] a fantastic phone for business as well as personal use.”
