THE SHORT LIST: 5 Things You Should Know About

ART: Lagan at the NLS 
Lagan, a solo exhibition of recent work by Washington-based artist Wilmer Wilson IV (made during his two-month residency at the NLS (Mountain View Avenue) is opening this Saturday at the NLS. Featuring sculptural arrangements that echo forms encountered in everyday spaces in Kingston, the show promises to enlighten and entice viewers. 

SONG: Natel’s “We Deserve This” 
Reggae-soul crooner Natel (né Nathaniel Hewitt) breaks from his signature themes of intimacy and romance to deliver arguably his most compelling original tune to date, a spare and rhythmic groove produced by Washroom Entertainment, bout striking that delicate (yet essential) balance between “work” and “play”. And who can’t relate to that? 

DANCE: The NDTC’s 51st season 
With some five new works added to the repertoire, the National Dance Theatre Company’s 51st season continues through August 11 at the Little Theatre in Kingston. Choreographers include Clive Thompson and Marlon Simms and, naturally, Rex Nettleford

DVD: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 
Escape to the Orient in this sprightly and well-acted drama (about a bunch of British retirees who travel to India ), directed by John Madden, featuring an exquisite cast of British screen royalty, namely Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and Maggie Smith

MOSCOW 2013: World Athletics Championships
Some 206 nations, including Jamaica, are taking part in the 2013 World Athletics Championships, which gets going in Moscow, Russia this Saturday through August 18. The city hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
