CULTURE BEAT: Four recording stars tapped as Fly Jamaica ambassadors + Eight stalwarts confirmed as 2013 Musgrave Medallists

AWARD WORTHY: Come October 16, eight Jamaicans will receive Musgrave Medals from the Institute of Jamaica during an awards ceremony at the IOJ Lecture Hall, Downtown Kingston, commencing at 3:00pm. The two gold medals to be handed out will be bestowed on legendary reggae producer Rainford 'Lee Scratch' Perry (above) and university lecturer Professor Franklin Knight. This year's silver medallists are author Marlon James, musician Earl 'Chinna' Smith, author-painter Franklin Bernal and climate change expert Professor Michael Taylor. Veteran author Pamela Mordecai and natural produts researcher Dr. Trevor Yee will be presented with bronze medals. Musgrave Medals are handed out annually in honour of outstanding Jamaicans in the literary, scientific and artistic fields.

STAR POWER: As they seek to diversify their brands, Jamaican music stars Wayne Marshall (above), Assassin, Tifa and Denyque have been tapped to serve as brand ambassadors for Fly Jamaica Airways.
