PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: UWI Mona family gears up for Homecoming Celebrations + Usain Bolt up for Jesse Owens International Award

THE WORLD'S GREATEST: An estimable batch of globally renowned sporting stars, Jamaica's Usain Bolt among them, have earned shortlist mention for the 2014 Jesse Owens International Athlete Trophy. Bolt, the 2013 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year and the RJR Sports Foundation's Sportsman of the Year, is nominated alongside Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Mo Farah, Lionel Messi, Michael Phelps, LeBron James, Liu Xiang, Mariot Jjoergen and Apolo Anton Ohno, bring this year's total number of nominees to 10. Established in memory of one of track-and-field's most celebrated sportsmen, the decades-old award continues to recognize the outstanding work of professional athletes across all sports. The International Athletic Association will reveal the winner, chosen by a panel of sports writers and experts from across the world, on March 10.

REASON TO CELEBRATE: Next week will mark the 2014 Homecoming Celebrations of University of the West Indies' Mona Campus. In addition to a commemoration service at the UWI Chapel, and a parade and flag-raising ceremony on Feb. 13, the week-long series of activities will crescendo with a special Caribbean Day on Feb. 14, aimed at highlighting an eclectic array of cultural delights from across the region, spanning food, music, dance and booth displays.
