WOMEN IN CHARGE: Portia Simpson-Miller's 40-year political milestone + Cindy Breakspeare to present 17th Bob Marley Lecure at UWI

THE STORY OF US: Jamaicans can't let go of a good love story. Decades later, we are still clamouring for juicy details on that epic, turn-your-lights-down-low romance shared by reggae kingpin Bob Marley and former Miss World Cindy Breakspeare (a Jay-Z and BeyoncĂ© of their heyday), that produced some of Bob's best tunes and the charismatic Junior Gong. UWI's Reggae Studies Unit, always aiming to please, has invited Breakspeare to present the 17th Annual Bob Marley Lecture, set for Thursday, Feb. 13 inside the school's Undercroft, commencing at 7pm. The ageless beauty's presentation, which succeeds Allan 'Skill' Cole's wonderful lecture last year, will centre on "Beauty and the Beast: A Bridge to the Natural Mystic."

FOUR DECADES LATER: Though there hasn't been anything resembling fanfare, this year marks Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller's 40th in politics, a milestone that undoubtedly turns the spotlight on her most notable achievements, such as earning a coveted spot on TIME's 2013 ranking of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, delivering keynote speeches at the United Nations headquarters, and proving her mettle as the first female leader of government in the history of the greatest little country on the planet.
