AGENT 83: The stylish track icon, with his game face on, as he appears in the latest Digi ad campaign.
One of the genuine pleasures of doing TALLAWAH each week is that every now and again we get to check in with some of our favourite people to find out where life and career transformation has taken them. Arguably, no one is experiencing a more profound moment of change than sprint icon Usain Bolt, who has set his sights on renewed domination of male sprinting well into the New Year, as a growing batch of rising stars (both at home and abroad) jostle for his crown.
Bolt, sporting a fresh look and new attitude, has been keeping a low profile since the curtains came down on his summer season, but he's always known hos to make a commanding re-entrance, and he does so, with pomp and style, thanks to his star turn in Digicel's latest TV ad spot — a sleek, pyrotechnic affair that features a host of other brand ambassadors and brand-name personalities, from Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and I-Octane to Marlon Samuels and Miss Kitty.
In all fairness, it's Bolt's presence that lends the stylish video clip (currently doing the prime time rounds) it's riveting appeal. Cutting a dashing figure in a sartorially sharp James Bond suit, the gangly superstar plays The Director, the mastermind pulling the strings of an operation aimed at brightening the Christmas season for the mobile company's loyal customers. It's the most thrilling and futuristic TV commercial we've come across in a long time. As fun-loving as he is on and off the field of play, Bolt's moment of seriousness, as depicted in the video, is the thing.
2015 will no doubt bring it's own bounty of noteworthy spotlight appearances from Usain Bolt, not least among them sensational track performances at venues across the globe. But, for now, local fans get to enjoy seeing their national sporting hero work the camera angles and increase phone sales while showing some leonine fierceness as only he can.
