THE CONTENDERS: Past winners dominate Best Reggae Album field for 2015 Grammys

Each December when the Grammy Awards contenders for Best Reggae Album are revealed, one can always expect to see a mix of past winners and obscure names (usually foreign-based reggae acts) in the running.

This year's crop is certainly no exception. Making up the class of 2015 for music's biggest night:
> Lee 'Scratch' Perry for Back on the Controls (Upsetter Records)
> Sean Paul for Full Frequency (VP/Atlantic Records)
> Soja for Amid the Noise and the Haste (Ato Records)
> Shaggy for Out of Many One Music (Ranch Entertainment Inc.)
> Sly & Robbie and Spicy Chocolate for The Power of Reggae (Universal/Taxi Records/VP Records)
> Ziggy Marley for Fly Rasta (Tuff Gong Worldwide).

Save for Soja, all of the nominees already have at least one golden statuette on their mantle — in the case of Ziggy and Sly & Robbie, more than one — so consider us intrigued to see who the voters select. Clearly, these are all solid records, so it's anyone's guess who will ultimately triumph. We'll have to wait for Feb. 8 when the 57th Grammy Awards take place in Los Angeles, with a live telecast scheduled for CBS. (The reggae winner is usually announced during the pre-show segment.)

Among the most coveted awards:
RECORD OF THE YEAR: Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX ("Fancy"); Sia ("Chandelier"); Sam Smith ("Stay With Me"); Taylor Swift ("Shake It Off") and Meghan Trainor ("All About That Bass")

SONG OF THE YEAR: Taylor Swift ("Shake If Off"); Hozier ("Take Me To You"); Meghan Trainor ("All About That Bass"); Sam Smith ("Stay With Me") and Sia ("Chandelier")

BEST NEW ARTIST: Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark, Haim, and Sam Smith

Did you know that in 1959 Ella Fitzgerald became the first Black woman to win a Grammy Awards? She picked up the prize for Best Jazz Solo Performance.
