THE BUZZ REPORT: TALLAWAH dishes news from the worlds of music, film and sports

Still riding high on the success of her stellar fourth album, I Rise, and fresh from a series of overseas engagements, radiant songbird Etana delivered a rousing show-closing performance at the Supreme Ventures Sunshine Series grand finale Tuesday night inside the National Indoor Sports Centre, where she also mingled with fans and corporate representatives and handed out free copies of the album! As for the bigger picture, the soulful songstress, whose style continues to evolve beautifully, tells TALLAWAH she's amped for another successful year on the charts and the stage, and this weekend's Rebel Salute extravaganza in St. Ann is as good a place as any to start.

And speaking of go-getters we can't help but admire, the buzz continues about star athlete Jaheel Hyde's bright future and history-making exploits at such a young age. The teen sensation has become the newest and youngest brand ambassador to be signed to Lime. According to the telcomms giants, the record-breaking national junior hurdler and Wolmer's Boys student will appear in upcoming promotional campaigns for the company, with something special planned for the Youth View Awards next month. Says Hyde, "Being picked for Team Lime is a great honour and one that allows me the opportunity to further my dream of becoming a professional athlete while representing a company that is doing great work, not only in Jamaica but across the region."

Still in the world of sports, while the Sunshine Girls continue to soak up applause for their superb on-court display in the just-concluded Sunshine Series against England, we have to give props to the entertainers who warmed up the crowd on Tuesday with a curtain-raising match-up against a group of ladies from corporate Jamaica. Judging by the loud cheers, patrons got a kick out of seeing some of their favourite dancehall hitmakers like Spice, D'Angel, Pamputtae, Tanya Stephens and Macka Diamond working up a sweat on the court while demonstrating that their multiple talents take them beyond the recording studio and the concert stage.

On the awards scene, the countdown is on to the 2015 YVAs, set for Feb. 21 at the National Indoor Sports Centre, with awards to be handed out in over 20 categories, including music, fashion and media. With the nominees now revealed, public voting has commenced, so log on to the YVAs Facebook page for details and to see the complete list of contenders..... The road to Oscar night is about to heat up with the Academy Awards nominations being revealed this week! Stay tuned for our take on the class of 2015.

Is this the end for Dancin' Dynamites? In an interview with TALLAWAH this week, showrunner Jenny Jenny hinted that the upcoming Season 10 of the hit talent series could be the final one! For the record, we believe there's much more vroom in the engine. For the time being though, it's a case of wait and see.
