SCENE & HEARD: PM Holness and French ambassador get acquainted; Wes Morgan’s moment, and more

GOAL ORIENTED: May 1, United Kingdom. Fit as a fiddle and at the top of his game, Jamaican international soccer star Wes Morgan celebrates scoring the opening goal for his team Leicester City during their recent Barclay’s Premier League match-up against Manchester United at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. A history-making feat, Leicester City were recently crowned the 2016 English Premier League champions. (Photo: Zimbio.com)

PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS: May 1, United Kingdom. Known for his nimble footwork and athletic prowess, Raheem Sterling (right), yet another Jamaican international plying his trade in the super-competitive realm of English club football, was recently in action for Manchester City (against Cuco Martina and Southampton) at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, England. THE FRENCH CONNECTION: April 29, St. Andrew. Each month, Jamaica House opens its doors to welcome visiting foreign dignitaries, from one continent or another, to meet with the prime minister. Most recently, PM Andrew Holness (right) received a courtesy call from Mr. Jean-Michel Despax, the newly installed Ambassador of France to Jamaica, who seems at home already. During their exchange, PM Holness assured Despax that his administration looks forward to more partnerships with the French government to advance mutual interests in infrastructural development, water and housing. STADIUM STATUS: April 28, United States. Team Jamaica had no shortage of crowd support at the just-concluded Penn Relays in the US, where our high-school and pro athletes yielded some impressive results to remind the world that we’ll always be a formidable force on the international stage. ICONIC MOMENT: April 18, United States. Entertainment legend Harry Belafonte, sharing a candid moment with the lovely Pamela Frank, must have experienced a flashback or two to his singing-and-dancing heyday, as he attended the National Dance Institute’s 40th Anniversary Gala at the Playstation Theatre in New York City last month. A pair of class acts aging gracefully. (Photo: Zimbio.com)
