SING IT OUT! When the Nexus Ensemble raises the curtain on their 2018 concert season, dubbed “Freedom Songs,” in Queens and Brooklyn, lovers of choral music and selections from the Jamaican songbook are in for a royal treat. “It will be a full celebration of Jamaican culture and global pop culture. We want our Caribbean people to get reacquainted and feel good about our rich cultural heritage,” says Nexus Artistic Director Hugh Douse. “We are planning a performance filled with choral theatre selections to give the feel of a musical production. But anyone who knows Nexus knows we can’t put on a show and not include some Jamaican gospel, African spirituals, some classical and some reggae and dancehall. And we’re bringing the full contingent – our 20 singers, the band and a tech team.” Nexus will be in Brooklyn August10, 11 and 12 and in Queens from August 17-19.
